Studies

Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture offers studies meeting the needs of the market, and focusing on innovative technologies (BIM, LEED). The Faculty encourages internationalism and cosmopolitan environment. The study process here is aimed at development of practical skills in construction engineering and architecture, at teamwork, which is encouraged through contemporary didactics. The works of alumni of the Faculty are celebrated landmarks in various parts of the world.

Dynamic, innovative and practical at the same time, this programme is implemented through Studio method, which means that study courses are integrated into a single complex task. Thus the students learn architecture-related principles of drawing, composition, physics, materials strengths, etc. and apply this knowledge and skills directly in the project they are working on. Another exclusivity of the programme lies in historical, cultural, theoretical and philosophical critical analysis of existing typologies, associated with the design of aesthetic prototyping which integrates constructions, mechanical, ecological and economic research.

Program presentation:

Building Services Engineering is designed for people, willing to have good understanding of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water supply and effluent discharge, gas and electrical systems. The students of the programme gain knowledge on how devices installed in contemporary construction work, and understand the possibilities for integration of new systems into present systems. Knowledge and skills related to renewable energy sources and possibilities of their use, and understanding of their principles of operation and control, skills and knowledge concerning their operation and installation is being provided. The graduates of the programme will be well informed of possible ways of saving energy and system optimisation, on effect of the building services have on people and the environment.

Program presentation:

Civil Engineering field comprises all processes, required for design, building, installation and operation of buildings and constructions. The curriculum to the study programme focuses on theoretical and practical issues regarding structures, production technology, construction technology, and organisation of construction works. The BSc programme thoroughly covers the scientific fundamentals of civil engineering and computer-aided design skills required to apply them, providing a range of opportunities to put theory into practice through specialist workshops, project works, and group works using BIM methodology.

Wide range of industry partners provides the students hands-on experience in the class and on the site. After the internship, the best students are often employed.

Program presentation:

Master’s programme in Architecture emphasizes development of architecture specialists in design, architectural, urban and territorial planning. Studies provide competences of scientific-methodical assessment, which enable preparation of professional projects for buildings and urban complexes as well as managerial skills to progress in architecture business field. This is one of a few study programmes with very tight collaboration among architects and civil engineers both in studies and research areas.

Program presentation:

This master’s study programme is designed for Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Engineering Systems or Energy Engineering bachelors. The studies provide knowledge and skills needed to systematically analyse, assess and design building engineering systems. Micro-climate building, focusing on the principles of sustainable construction, energy costs and renewable energy source technology, system management principles, energy accumulation, transmission and consumption technology are an important part of the study curriculum. The graduates of the programme are able to undertake the maintenance of energy-efficient building and to carry out the building energy efficiency inspection.

Construction Management is the programme of civil engineering field, which provides its students with knowledge of project and enterprise management, building information modelling (BIM), and geo-information systems (GIS). The graduates of the programme will possess abilities to ensure quality control during construction processes, to apply BIM and GIS technologies while carrying out construction projects, to conduct scientific research, and to apply its results into practice when developing construction design solutions.

Advanced building products technology and structures, digital construction, policies of sustainable development and energy saving require both comprehensive technical knowledge and the application of analytical, decision making and critical thinking skills. Structural and Building Products Engineering programme focuses on the development of these competencies and provides a unique mix of experimental and computational modelling expertise.

Program presentation:

History of Art doctoral study programme is provided in the interdisciplinary research area and focuses on three fields: theory of architecture and urbanism, history and musicology. University graduates of various areas are admitted to doctoral studies taking into consideration their scientific input in their chosen topic.

 

Objective of doctoral students’ work is development of complex approach to phenomenon or problem in interdisciplinary perspective, suggesting innovative methodology appropriate for research, discover new patterns or knowledge complementing current scientific understanding of the researched phenomenon.

Doctoral study programme in civil engineering complies with the following areas of research: increase of building energy efficiency, modelling and research of building structures, creation and research of new building materials, construction technologies and management. Most of doctoral students are part-time employed at various departments of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture during their studies. Most of doctoral students complete part of their studies or research at foreign research and educational institutions.

The objective of doctoral study programme in civil engineering is development of highly qualified scientists of construction engineering field, able to conduct scientific research for solution of imminent problems in the field.
