International Conference Ecological Architecture 2015: Insights Into Sustainability

KTU’s Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture is hosting an international conference Ecological Architecture 2015 this week. The Conference, which takes place every two years, will provide overview on the most recent research and trends in architecture, including fields of landscape architecture and urban planning.

The main topics of this year’s Conference are: development of urban structures, humanisation of protected territories, revitalising of small towns. According to the organisers, ecological architecture is not only about construction materials and energetic efficiency of buildings, but also about new structures blending in the environment and harmonically interacting with traditional architecture.

The aim of the Conference is to discuss the application of ecological ideas and principles of sustainability to the fields of architectural design and planning, to share the Lithuanian experience with colleagues from other countries. The focus of the papers presented at the Conference is identifying the aesthetic and technological peculiarities of ecological or sustainable architecture, considering climatic conditions, sociocultural peculiarities and other features of the region.

Among the speakers are Jūratė Kamičaitytė-Virbašienė, Gražina Janulytė-Bernotienė and Irina Matijošaitienė from Lithuania, Anna Januchta-Szostak and Marcin Giedrowicz from Poland, Halil Semih Eryildiz, Demet Irkli Eryildiz, Demet Mutman and Demet Irkli Eryildiz from Turkey, Alžbeta Križankova and Julian Keppl from Slovakia and other researchers and professional architects.

During the Conference the best works from international students’ competition for Seredžius town urbanistic and architectural vision will be awarded.

The Conference will take place on Thursday 22 October at KTU’s Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture (Studentų Street 48, Kaunas), room 311, 10am.

On Friday 23 October an educational excursion to Kaunas inter-war architecture objects will take place.
