GreenInCities

Project no.: 101139730

Project description:

The aim of GreenIN Cities project is to build a new co-creative, integrated and collaborative approach for planning urban climate regeneration in deprived and dysfunctional areas through the development and testing of innovative co-analysis, co-designing and co-monitoring tools and methodologies for people, technicians and decision-makers.

Project funding:

EU Research and Innovation Funding Programme “Horizon Europe”

Project results:

GreenInCities will develop innovative methodologies, protocols and tools for the co-analysis of intervention areas and for the co-design and co-monitoring of the greening and re-naturing interventions (e.g. wildlife citizen science kits, video games for co-planning, validation tools based on AR, etc.).
GreenIn Cities will establish a comprehensive repository of greening solutions & practices for activating public space and buildings by merging existing catalogues with a newly developed catalogue of solutions developed during the project.
GreenIn Cities will develop a Sustainable Renaturing Toolbox for governance and decision-making processes compatible with the targets and indicators outlined in the Global and European sustainable goals, as well as with the existing municipal and regional planning strategies.
Digital tools and data-driven models in urban regeneration processes will be achieved by devising and prototyping a data platform and a data marketplace to store green initiatives data collected by cities for monitoring impact indicators, by developing and testing pre-and post-intervention predictive tools based on multiple micro and macro physics-based models and data gathered from multi-modal sensor inputs, analyzed by unsupervised AI/ML to assess the impact and performances of greening solutions & practices in Lighthouse and Follower cities and by creating tools for visualizing and sharing information with relevant city stakeholders, using Augmented Reality technology in the front end to realistically visualize proposed changes at pilot sites, along with the most relevant insights for early validation of results.
GreenIn Cities will achieve this objective through the development of a set of tools & methodologies & systems that use a vast array of engagement strategies to reach the community during the urban regeneration process.
